September 29, 2024 - In a groundbreaking move, Huawei has launched the Mate XT, the world's first commercial tri-fold smartphone. This innovative device, which folds twice to reveal three screens, has captured the attention of tech enthusiasts and industry experts alike.
The Mate XT boasts a 10.2-inch tablet-sized screen when fully unfolded, offering a unique 16:11 aspect ratio that enhances browsing and productivity. When folded, it transforms into a more compact 6.4-inch display, making it versatile for various uses. The phone runs on HarmonyOS 4.2, ensuring a smooth and efficient user experience. The camera setup includes a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 12MP telephoto lens, making it one of the best camera systems on a foldable device. It is, however, noteworthy that the phone does not support SD cards, leaving users with no options to expand the storage beyond what is provided out of the box. Considering the large size and weight of the device, not mentioning the premium pricing, this leaves a lot to be desired.
Despite its complex hinge mechanism, the Mate XT houses a 5600mAh battery, providing a full day's worth of usage under normal conditions. It supports 66W wired and 50W wireless charging, ensuring that users can quickly recharge their device.
The Mate XT's launch comes at a time when Huawei is under significant scrutiny from the US government, which has imposed trade restrictions on the company. Despite these challenges, Huawei continues to innovate and push the boundaries of smartphone technology. The Mate XT is currently available in China, with plans for a global release in the near future.
Adding to the excitement, luxury brand Caviar has announced a custom version of the Mate XT, covered in 24k gold and priced at over $14,000. This exclusive edition is part of Caviar's Rich Colors collection and is aimed at the ultra-wealthy segment of the market.
